Copy as path in Windows 7/8

Update: Since Windows 11, the same option is available by default in the context menu without using Shift Key, or the path can be copied using the shortcut key Ctrl + Shift + C.

Many times we want to copy the complete file path, and we do that in two steps:

  • Copy the path of the folder/drive in which the file resides
  • Copy Filename

and use a combination of them to solve the purpose.

One simple solution from Win 7 onwards is to select a file and press the Shift key + Right Mouse click. A context menu will have an option “Copy as path,” select it, and you’re done.
